There are various ways to add to your comfort level in your home. This is especially important if you spend a lot of time there, as is the case with anyone who uses a home office. Incorporating smart home features is one way to bring your home into the modern era. Aside from this, you can add a few more touches to make your home more up-to-date. Soundproofing helps you control noise that can affect your productivity and make it difficult for you to relax.
USING SOUND PROOFING MATERIAL
Since sound easily travels though walls and the spaces between them, the idea is to minimize the vibration transfer. If you are taking this step, ask about fiberglass insulation batts, cotton batts, and mineral fiber batts. Even the cheapest of these options can have a big impact in terms of cutting sound transfer. Realistically however, these materials will not cut out all noise, and their effectiveness will depend on the ability to install them correctly.
The best method for soundproofing the basement is to use materials that are designed to do just that. Matrix Basement Remodeling uses products created here in the USA at Matrix Manufacturing. All of our products are created using recyclable materials. MgO board is a wonderful soundproofing material to use for walls. We also use Rockfon ceiling tiles and Tyroc subflooring to further soundproof a room or the basement.
SEALING DOORS
It is difficult to soundproof some types of doors, so you may have to consider replacing yours with one more suitable for this process. You can do everything possible to soundproof a room, and then find that the door is a weak point. If you are unable to change the door, the only other option is to keep sound from coming through the spaces around it. This may involve removing the door trim, and using foam or caulk to seal the space. Weather-stripping will also help with soundproofing this area.
Other Steps
Sound can be transferred through the floor, so choose soundproofing materials such as Tyroc Subflooring for the floor upstairs and the basement floor as well. You may choose to use Tyroc Subflooring in the upstairs flooring, and then Rockfon Ceiling Tiles to further dampen noise that comes from upstairs. Choose carpeting that is thick enough to further minimize noise in the basement floor. Sometimes, thick curtains can also add another layer of sound protection. If you are adding a room to use as a home office, work out the soundproofing in detail during the planning phase.
Soundproofing jobs do not usually take long, so you will not be overly inconvenienced during the installation. This is a good move for private areas like the home office, den, and for the entertainment room to keep sounds from reaching other parts of the home.
