Basement remodeling projects can take a variety of forms. You are not alone if you are not quite sure what you want to do with this space. If it is large enough, you will probably think of more than one way to use this section of your home. Once you can visualize it, you are on your way to setting up your refinishing project. It often helps to look at pictures online. You may even find something that you love enough to duplicate to really make it simpler!
A Half Wall
There are two different ways to set this up. You can install a short wall that extends almost the entire length of the room. You can take your time choosing the height, but ideally, you should be able to see over the wall into the other side. You can also cut out a window in a wall that reaches up to the ceiling. This will give you more options in terms of decorating. You can install shelves on the wall, hang paintings or choose some other decorative or functional feature.
A Full Wall
You might prefer to separate the basement into two or more sections. You can leave an entryway, or you can add a door depending on how much separation you need from area to area. A wall will vastly expand your decorating and installation options. You can also choose a paint finish that will enhance the look of the room such as faux leather or some other specialty paint effect.
An Open Design
A large archway will clearly define the two separate spaces, but make it easy to access either side. You can frame it with molding to create a finished look. This style is particularly ideal for parents who want to create an entertainment area for themselves and a play area for children. You can think about other ways to make use of these two sections.
Individual Rooms
You will need a solid plan in place if your intention is to build several individual rooms in the basement. A bedroom, for example, will require floor to ceiling walls, as will a bathroom. But you can get by with half walls for a gym or entertainment area.
